Benefits of Employee Motivation
The hotel manager's staff is responsible for looking after visitors and providing them with a positive experience. The degree of participation from visitors will improve if the personnel is bright and motivated, and their attitude will adjust to match who is serving them. If one were to consider themself as a hotel owner or a staff manager: they must ensure that their personnel are onboard with the hotel's vision and mission. It can also be simplified as the happiness of your customers depends on your hands while ensuring a memorable smooth service is provided through your employees.
Owners and managers must have or work on developing sophisticated communication skills and a desire to be in frequent touch with the people in the industry. You will create a far better connection with personnel if you are friendly and approachable, and they will feel more comfortable offering and accepting criticism.
In order to reap the benefits of staff motivation, hotel executives can frequently engage in activities as mentioned below.
• Creating an enjoyable working environment.
This does not imply that management must hold weekly employee celebrations or hang streamers throughout the property. However, it is critical to establish an environment in which employees would enjoy working together. It can be obtained by making sure the entire team has opportunity to bond and form pleasant, casual relationships.
• Demonstrating your commitment to your staff.
Constant connection with a hands-on guidance can be displayed as a sign of care and availability to employees if they need it, rather than leaving them feeling like they're perpetually in the deep end. Ongoing training and upskilling can greatly assist with this, as well as provide comfort to employees that there is a road to advancement in the hospitality industry.
• Providing incentives, acknowledge accomplishments, and share outcomes.
A great way to send a powerful and positive affirmation to your employees can be acquired through reward programs such as providing incentives, increments and sharing outcomes. Employee recognition will also help them understand the work expected from them to achieve such acknowledgments.
• Allowing everyone to achieve their best.
When your employees feel that they're being held back, they might get to a state of frustration. Not having access to latest techniques, processes or technology are one of the main reasons for this. It is important for the management to understand that simple yet pivotel things as using an antiquated vacuum cleaners or excruciatingly sluggish reservation software can cause your employees to be sterile in productivity. Managing this can directly cause a positive impact on your guests.
• Hold everyone responsible.
Creating a strong and happy work environment is about encouraging everyone to perform their best and not just pleasing them. A fine example for this would be to make sure all employees understands their position, and when in confrontation of a negative feedback, it is important to discuss it with your team to understand the impact and how to improve when in the same situation again (C.G. Davidson, McPhail and Barry, 2011).
Methods of employee motivation can be as creative as one can be. The number of options and solutions one can create is numerous. In addition to the above examples on how employees can be motivated in the hospitality sector, below video also gives a brief understanding on how hotel employees can be motivated to downgrade the employee turnover rate.
Source - Magnify School (2021)Employee engagement is always one of the most important aims for employers regardless of how big or small a hotel is. It all boils down to the hotel's corporate culture (including values). This is especially true in today's society, as millennial’s account for the majority of the workforce. Due to the demand in millennial behaviour most companies are aware of their increased demands, requests, and requirements. Employers, on the other hand, must learn to adapt since the advantages of strong employee motivation are vast.
Therefore, motivated employees, as opposed to uninspired personnel:
- Are more creative and inventive - When employees are motivated and engaged, they come up with new ideas that can help companies operate better.
- Takes initiative actions - Motivated personnel search for creative ways to solve problems and achieve their objectives. They seldom wait for criticism and frequently assess their own work.
- Deal with ambiguity more effectively - Motivated personnel are more self-assured in their work because they are more engaged. As a result, they know how to handle challenging circumstances that arise inside the hotel's confines(Smarp.com, 2019).
- Are more capable problem-solvers - Most organizations search for problem-solving abilities in their staff. When staff are motivated, they will work harder to solve issues and overcome hurdles.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the hotel's objectives. - Employees that are motivated prefers to know how their job adds to the company's overall success. As a result, they are constantly interested in learning about the company's mission, vision, and goals.
- Work on their own objectives - Motivated individuals are exceptional at recognizing and accomplishing their personal goals because they understand the company's aims.
- Contribute to the hotel’s objectives - Motivated personnel care about team and corporate goals in addition to working hard to attain their individual objectives.
- Takes fewer days off for illness or other reasons - This results in lower absenteeism. Employees that are motivated are more inclined to work rather than taking time off.
- Have improved hotel management and employee relations - This indicates that employees are less inclined to seek legal or industrial actions against bosses if they accept changes without protest(BBC Bitesize, n.d.).
To summarize employees that are motivated will work harder and help the hotel become more efficient, productive, and competitive. Employees in the hotel sector are expected to work long hours and remain focused on their customers, so keeping them motivated is critical. It is also important for businesses to understand the aspects that keep people engaged in order to boost employee motivation. Another benefit of investing management time in establishing a happy team of employees is that they are more likely to stay with the company in the long run. This implies that their expertise and experience in the hospitality business will develop, minimizing the need for new hire training and worrying about returning clients with specific preferences.
